James Fair

Late in 2006 Jeff Woods heard the story of local Iraq Vet James Fair. James' story goes like this:

Six weeks after James Fair, a 22-year-old combat engineer, began serving in Iraq in the fall of 2003, he detonated a homemade bomb while walking away from a barbed wire fence he had just erected near Falluja. He lost his eyesight and both arms below the elbows, and sustained brain injuries.

Moved with compassion, Jeff decided that Misty Pines needed to get involved in some way to help this brave young man. From that desire came the James Fair Animal Care Fund. Misty Pines established an account that pays for the purchase, care and maintenance of James' dog(s) or other pets.

The JFACF is funded entirely from donations from Misty Pines' customer and staff, events held by Misty Pines and the sale of certain items in the Misty Pines retail store. This page will have list all the events held for James and the amount raised by each as well as a list of upcoming James Fair events. In addition, we will keep an archive of as many articles and videos about James as we can and hope that others will be moved to act as well. If you are reading this for the first time, we encourage you to be a part of James' life and find a way to get involved. For everyone reading this, first time or not, please help us spread the word and give back to those who have valiantly fought for our freedom as well as the freedom of others. "Greater love has no man than this, that one lay down his life for another."
