Dog Training ClassesGetting StartedDog Training OrientationThe first step towards attending group classes is to attend an Orientation. This prerequisite two hour session will provide the information necessary to prepare you for group classes. We will discuss training terms and equipment, dog behavior and socialization, and class structure so that you are able to jump into classes right away. You will also receive a packet with two informative books. After attending the Orientation, pups under six months will enter into Puppy Classes, and dogs over six months will enter into Starter Classes. Puppy and Starter Orientations are offered once a month. The registration fee is $60 for the Orientation and $14 for each Group Class. Please pre-register for either of the Dog Training Orientations by calling in or clicking the appropriate link below. Click here to read Dog Training Reviews, or here to read Dog Training Seminar Reviews. Pups 6 months old and younger will attend the Puppy Orientation while all dogs over 6 months old will attend the Starter Orientation.
All dogs must be current on Rabies, DHLPP, and Bordetella (Bordetella every 6 months) vaccinations. All pets must have received inoculations at least 5 days prior to their visit to Misty Pines. Group Dog Training ClassesGroup dog training classes provide the unique benefit of socialization with other dogs and people. Our group classes are informative and educational, as well as entertaining for your whole family. Exposing your dog to many new dogs and people at an early age will help him become a friendly, well-socialized pet. The Dog Park Grounds are included in the group class price on the days you attend class which gives you more opportunity to socialize your dog. All of our classes integrate agility obstacles into the obedience training. This builds confidence and trust in both the dog and handler. We incorporate real life situations for your dog to work through. They will learn to behave around children playing, riding bicycles, and bouncing balls. After 15 classes, owners and their dogs are generally ready to test-out to the next class level. Test-out is held on the third Saturday of each month. Misty Pines dog training classes are ongoing every week throughout the year. Each class level is scheduled several times every week. After attending Orientation you can come for class as often as you need to. You can continue coming to classes as your dog grows up and goes through the challenging phases of his life. Puppy Training Class:Puppy Training Classes are crucial for teaching social skills, good manners, and a positive attitude about learning. Puppies will gain an understanding of basic obedience commands such as sit, down, stay, come, walking nicely on a leash, obstacles and more. Click here for more information about Puppy Training Class.
Starter Dog Training Class:Starter Dog Training Classes are designed for older puppies and adult dogs that are new to our program. You will learn techniques for teaching basic obedience commands such as sit, down, stay, come, heel, obstacles, and more. Your dog and you will learn how to successfully work through real life distractions. Click here for more information about Beginner Dog Training Classes.
Basic Dog Training Class:In Basic Dog Training Classes, your dog will learn more advanced agility obstacles and you will fine-tune your dog's repertoire of obedience commands. We will challenge you and your dog by increasing distractions and teaching new commands and behaviors. This class also continues to prepare you and your dog for the Canine Good Citizen Test and Therapy Dog International Test. When you and your dog would like more challenges, you are already to test out and graduate by passing the Therapy Dog International Test.
Advanced Dog Training Class:The Advanced Dog Training Class introduces you and your dog to off-leash handling, challenging agility obstacles, retrieving, and new obedience exercises. This level builds on foundation obedience skills which will help you and your dog master real life situations under high levels of distraction. We meet periodically at off-site locations to test reliability of trained behaviors. The Advanced Dog Training Class also introduces situations which might be encountered in obedience and agility competitions. This class will help you create a very reliable and well-trained dog.
All Levels Dog Training Class:The All Levels Dog Training Class incorporates skills and exercises for students from the Starter, Basic, and Advanced Classes. It provides inspiration to the less experienced owner while continuing to provide challenges for the seasoned veteran. The activities are appropriate for dogs and trainers of all levels, and the results are fun and exciting.
Flyball Class:Flyball is a fun sport for ball loving dogs! Flyball is run in "Relay-Race" style, with each canine team member running over four hurdles to touch a spring-loaded box with their paws, causing a tennis ball to shoot into the air. As the dog retrieves the ball back over the hurdles, the next team member takes off. This fun and fast-paced class is open to any level dog and handler team, and proves to be a great way to tire out an excitable dog! Flyball is no longer a monthly class but will still be held on Saturdays from 8 to 9 a.m. Please visit our Upcoming Classes page for exact dates. Click here to sign up for our Flyball Class Newsletter.
Agility Class:Misty Pines teaches and uses obstacles in our training classes as motivational aids for your dog as a fun way to learn. Schooling your dog in agility obstacles will also strengthen communication between you and your dog. It promotes teamwork and builds your dog’s respect and trust in you as its leader. While this sport can be very competitive, this class will be taught as a recreational activity to enhance your relationship with your dog. In this monthly agility class, you and your dog will communicate, bond, and have fun! Agility Class is held the second Saturday of each month from 8 to 9 a.m. Please pre-register. Click here to sign up for our Agility Class Newsletter.
Growl Class:Misty Pines has developed a special class for highly aroused and aggressive canines. All Growl Class participants must first attend a behavior consultation before attending growl class. Topics we cover include behavior evaluation, proper handling skills, reading canine body language, anticipating aggressive responses, and conditioning positive associations. Please pre-register.
