    Classes at North Park

    Tuesday, June 12th
    Tuesday, July 24th
    Tuesday, August 21st
    Tuesday, September 11th

    Cost: $15

    6:30 - 7:30 PM

Misty Pines Dog Park Company will be holding a special location dog training class in North Park. Class will be meeting at the North Park Swimming Pool parking lot at 6:30 PM. Please bring all of your usual tools needed for class and be sure to have a treat bag filled with your dog’s most favorite treats. You may want to skip feeding your dog dinner this day to ensure you have your dog’s full attention. Please sign up and prepay in advance. This class is open to students from all levels of classes.

    Location
At Misty Pines we work towards building solid obedience and behavior throughout any diversion that we may come across. To solidify these behaviors we work through four variables of dog training; Distance, Distraction, Duration, and Location. Location is perhaps one of the most important variables of training a dog to cope with everyday situations such as someone coming to your door or taking your dog to the park on a sunny afternoon. As a general rule, a dog will only work where it has been taught to do so. Therefore, if the only place that you ever practice obedience such as heeling and stays is here in training class or at home in your living room, it is likely that your dog will find it difficult to hold their focus while faced with the unique distractions present in a new location. Keep in mind that when we change a criteria or variable in training, we make a command new again. Remember that you may need to take a step back and teach the sit command with lure and reward techniques the first time in a new location so that the dog learns to “listen” at this new place with unique distractions.

Clicks are for Tricks (Parlor Tricks with Clickers)

    TBA

    All Levels Welcome
    Time - 8 - 9 AM
    Cost - $17

Does your dog need something new to learn? Want something exciting to show when friends and family come to visit? Then try our parlor tricks and clicker training class. We will discuss and train using a clicker to positively reinforce behavior. Parlor tricks often involve multiple steps to teach, so the clicker is an optimal tool to mark the moment of the desired behavior. Clicker training is a method that captures the desired behavior by clicking it as it occurs. It is the same method trainers use to train dolphins and whales. During this class we will introduce and condition dogs to the clicker. We will also train behaviors such as “sit-up”, “take a bow”, “act shy”, and several other dog tricks.

    Electronic Pager/Collar Brush-up Session

    TBA

    Cost - $17

This is a refresher course for owners who train with electronic collars and remote/pager collars. This can be a very difficult tool to use and requires precise timing and skill to apply correctly. We feel that remedial training is not only warranted, but should be required!

If you have trained your current dog on an electronic collar or a remote/pager collar, we recommend enrolling in this class for a tune-up. We will review the five basic obedience behaviors using the e-collar: sit, down, stay, heel and this way/come, as well as all other behaviors for which you are utilizing the collar.

*PREREQUISITE: electronic or remote/pager collar workshop or private e-collar training.

The Remote/Pager Electronic Collar Workshop is designed to teach owners how to properly use the remote/pager collar for dog training. This is an interactive three evening workshop for you and your dog. We will supply each handler with a remote electronic/pager collar for their dog's personal instruction and learning and if you decide to purchase this collar we will extend a 10% discount to you. We will teach owners how to utilize the remote collar for the five basic behaviors: come/this way, sit, down, stay heel, and also how to correct nuisance behaviors. Prerequisites for the class are that dogs should be over 8 months old and have a foundation of the five basic obedience behaviors. TBA

    8 - 9 AM

All levels and all breeds are welcome from the tiniest Yorkie up to the largest St. Bernard, from complete novices to jail-breaking broncos!

This class will teach your dog to pull whatever item you want him to pull. A bike, wagon, sled, you on skates...anything! Don’t worry; teaching your dog to pull won’t undo any previous obedience training. In fact, quite the opposite; if your dog knows not to pull when given a command, telling them it is okay to pull will solidify their understanding.

Be sure to bring a hungry dog with their favorite treats or toy. Also, if any special equipment is wanted, such as in-line skates or a scooter, bring it along. We will provide a harness for the first class and help get your dog fitted. See you there!

    Saturday, December 1st

    8:00 - 9:00AM
    Cost - $17

We are now offering Stay Class on the first Saturday of even numbered months. If you are interested in developing your dog's 'stay' command to become a more reliable behavior, then this class for you!

We will work on the three most important aspects of the 'stay' command, the 3 D’s - distance, duration, and distraction. Distance training develops your dog's tolerance to the amount of space between you and your dog. Duration refers to the amount of time your dog holds the 'stay'. Distractions are anything that could interrupt the 'stay' behavior. Our class will improve your dog's 'stay' command by exposing them to these variables in a controlled environment. We have a variety of common real world “distractions” available such as: other people/dogs, wheelchairs, bikes, and toys. The class goal is to achieve a reliable 2-3 minute 'sit', a 3 minute 'down', and a 'stand' for examination.

For those who strive for the utmost performance out of themselves and their dogs, we are renewing a focus on completing the 1 Hour, 1 Mile challenge. To help along the way, and to reward and acknowledge milestone achievements, we are also creating 3 new challenges: 15 Minute, 15 Feet; 30 Minute, 30 Feet and the 45 Minute, 45 Feet challenges. For each achievement, the owner and dog will have their names added to a plaque hung downstairs in the Training Building.

    Yoga With Your Dog

    TBA

All Levels, No yoga experience necessary

    Cost - $18 per person

Live like a dog, live in the moment.

Please join us! This class incorporates yoga poses (asanas) with your dog. You will practice traditional poses with a twist, integrating your dog into the action. Yoga provides many benefits including building strength and flexibility. Any level of strength or flexibility is perfect for this class. Often people think they can't do yoga because they are not flexible or strong enough. However, this is simply false. One of the many benefits of yoga is that truly anyone can do it. If you can breathe you can do yoga! Try it and see!

Dogs are naturals at this practice as they even have a pose in reference to their species, downward facing dog. However, there is more to it than just this pose. The biggest factor is a dog's inherent quality of living in the moment. Rather than worrying about the past or the future they live in the present, a quality that most of us struggle with daily. Attend Yoga With Your Dog and you will work towards experiencing this healthy mindset as well as physical benefits.

What to bring: yoga mat or a long towel for human, comfortable clothing, towel for your dog, water bottle.

    Reminders:
-You will be barefoot during the class
-Don't worry. It is expected that dogs will be excited but will settle in as the class goes on. To help alleviate some of their excitement please arrive to class 15 minutes early. This will allow for time to let your dog run a bit, meet the other dogs, go to the bathroom and set up your practice space.
-It is suggested to practice yoga on a light stomach. It is suggested to eat lunch or dinner after the class rather than right before for both human and dog.

Class is taught by Aimee Woods, Certified Yoga Instructor and Health Counselor
