Jeffrey Woods
President of Misty Pines Dog Park Company
Jeff Woods is the Founder and President of Misty Pines Dog Park Company. Jeff has been successfully training, consulting and teaching thousands of dogs and their owners to "howl with success" since 1975. Jeff’s 30 years in practice and experience, coupled with education from La Roche College, Cornell University, the University of Guelph and the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), led to his development and invention of the patented Scruffy Guider® training collar. As a certified pet dog trainer (CPDT), Jeff invented, uses and recommends this training tool as a collar that provides not only a safe way to train for the owner, but a collar that was developed with the dog's well being in mind. It has been used by thousands of people and dogs with tremendous success. The Scruffy Guider® is marketed and sold worldwide.
Jeff's knowledge and love of dogs inspired his development of a successful Pet Care Facility and a 25-acre dog park. The park is complete with obstacles, hiking trails and a pond where dogs can swim, with lots of running space in a secure environment. As open spaces disappear, and areas don't allow dogs, Misty Pines Dog Park offers a place where dogs and their owners can experience a dog friendly environment to exercise, socialize and have fun.
Misty Pines Dog Park Company also has a Doggie Convention Center which is a state of the art 5,400 sq. ft. facility, completely equipped for professional training, dog events, and shows. Misty Pines’ group training classes, canine behavioral evaluations, and seminars are held in this facility. Jeff performs behavioral consultations and evaluations for pet dog owners dealing with various behavioral issues at the facility, his assessments and evaluations dealing with dog aggression is most sought out and valued by his peers, clients and judges seeking analyses and evaluations for their dog aggressive cases. He also instructs a weekly “growl class” for his clients that have highly aroused and aggressive dogs that cannot be placed into the other group training classes. This has been an extremely successful class that has allowed many dogs to improve to a level that they are able to attend the regular group training classes and even participate with other dogs in doggie daycare.
Jeff serves on the advisory board for Animal Friends, Inc. As a board member he advised, inspired and aided in their decision to move out of the city to build their seven million dollar Caryl Gates Gluck state-of-the-art animal shelter and resource center.
Jeff has also had the fortune and experience of being raised be a “Veterinarian Father” and spent many hours of his childhood, adolescent and adult life working under the influence of his supervision. Jeff also was his father’s dog handler and kennel manager. Dr. Robert J. Woods has retired from a 50 year practice as of 2005 at the age of 80.
Jeff has also developed a line of English Pointers known as the “Woodspoint Pointers” There is are five generations of these exceptional dogs. These dogs are only bred every few years and are developed not only as “good dogs” with excellent temperaments but also as Master Hunters. These dogs excel at upland game. One of Jeff’s many passions in the dog world is helping people develop bird dogs to their full potential.
